Irish Rail DART EMU, in the implementation phase

In 2020, Bilerro was awarded the international tender for the renovation of the passenger information system on the 17 trains (68 cars) that make up the EMU 85xx series from Japanese manufacturer Tokyu Car. These are DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) electric units.

The project currently underway includes the design of the passenger information system, the necessary equipment and its integration with existing technology, together with its installation.

One of the most relevant features and functionalities of the project is the implementation of TFT screen technology for station announcements, providing the cars with new capabilities that will allow for the customization of announcements, messages, advertising, etc. during journeys in a fully automated manner. Similarly, a Wi-Fi coupling system has been implemented between trains for data transfer between units.

In November 2021, Bilerro launched the first train, and in March 2022, integration with Irish Rail's onboard CCTV system was implemented on that same train. As of September 2022, a total of seven train units have been installed, all of which are currently providing passenger service.

The project is progressing well and will enable Irish Rail to update its most representative fleet, providing the latest technology on the market and equipping trains with train-to-ground communications to optimize maintenance.
