KonnOTA Project – Kontrolatu Onboard Nodes Over The Air (ZL-2025-00370)

In an increasingly digital world, the secure and efficient updating of onboard train systems is key to ensuring reliable, sustainable, and cybersecure operations. This is where the opportunity of the KonnOTA project lies, whose main objective is the development of a secure Over-The-Air (OTA) update deployment system for the software assets of onboard edge equipment.

This system will be managed from our cloud-based RMS (Remote Management Systems) platform and will enable real-time, remote deployment of updates through available wireless connections (4G/5G, Wi-Fi). In this way, the applied hardening mechanisms will be kept up to date, ensuring robustness and resilience against potential security threats, thereby maximizing system availability.

Scope and Key Components

• Comprehensive OTA architecture for critical railway environments, including:
• Hardening and compliance with IEC 62443 standards.
• Security protocols (end-to-end encryption, authentication, integrity).
• Version management and automatic rollback in case of failures.
• Integration with RMS for remote control and advanced monitoring.
• Experimental autonomous SLM (Small Language Model) agent for:
• Reasoning and decision-making during deployments.
• Proactive update management and error recovery.
