EDGE4FoF

Research into balanced hybrid EDGE and Cloud architectures for the Factory of the Future (ZE-2020/00017)

The EDGE4FoF project is led by Etxetar and involves companies such as Fagor Automation, Gaindu, Bilerro, Aingura IIoT, Titanium, and the Spanish Association of Machine Tool, Accessories, Components, and Tools Manufacturers (AFM). The project is part of the 2020 call for proposals of the HAZITEK PROGRAM and has been carried out during the period 2020-2022.

Connected devices have increasingly greater computing capacity, mainly due to the falling cost of technology and the improved energy efficiency offered by the latest hardware. This growth in the computing capabilities of devices and systems that traditionally did not have access to them has contributed not only to an increase in data consumption and generation, but also to the emergence of new computing models that take advantage of these new capabilities of devices spread throughout the network. This is where concepts such as Edge Computing and Fog Computing have gained momentum.

The main goal is to research and propose a new hybrid reference architecture in EDGE/Cloud Computing, deploying scenarios that have an impact on the competitiveness of the consortium, which can be approached from different investment and exploitation objectives. This leads to the development of innovative advanced products/services capable of automatically balancing the load to offer solutions to the factory of the future, positioning these companies as leaders of the new paradigm.
